Attorney Alex Rosenthal recently spoke at a meeting of the Florida Lawyers Network, addressing the ethical pitfalls of advising a client on their social media activity. The lecture, titled "The Issue of the Ethical Considerations of Counseling Clients on the Modifications to Social Media Pages" was presented on December 13 for the Florida Lawyers Network West Broward Chapter at the Lago Mar Country Club.
From the Florida Lawyers Network website: "The Florida Lawyers Network (FLN) is a statewide network of highly-skilled and well-qualified lawyers in each area of practice throughout Florida. Each Member must have at least five years of experience and must be well-versed and knowledgeable in his or her designated area of practice."
FLN holds a number of different events throughout the year to better inform its members on the significant issues facing their practice area. Many of these events qualify as Continuing Legal Education (CLE) events, which are crucial to maintaining membership with the Florida Bar.
Attorney Rosenthal's presentation addressed a matter that attorneys across numerous practice areas have had to face: advising clients on their social media activity (and existing content) prior to litigation. He spoke about Florida Bar Ethics Advisory Option 14-1, which does apply to social media considerations when clients inquire about their account privacy settings or deleting previous content before a trial.
Rosenthal Law Group would like to thank the Florida Lawyers Network for holding this month's meeting and for all those that attended "The Issue of the Ethical Considerations of Counseling Clients on the Modifications to Social Media Pages" session.
